Terms & Conditions

These terms govern use of The Black Lake Inn website, table bookings, online voucher purchases and visits to the premises. “We”, “us” and “our” mean Black Lake Leisure Limited, trading as The Black Lake Inn from Hilderstone Road, Meir Heath, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire ST3 7NT. Our registered office is Chimneys House Warner Street Hanley St1 3DH .

By using the website, making a booking or buying a voucher, you agree to the parts of these terms that apply to you. Nothing in these terms affects rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under UK consumer law.

These terms apply from 26th OCTOBER 2026. Earlier transactions may be governed by the terms and legal operator in place when the transaction was made.

We aim to keep the website accurate and available, but content may be updated and the website may occasionally be unavailable. Photographs are illustrative. Menus, ingredients, prices, offers, events and availability can change. Please contact us if particular information is important to your visit.

  • You may use the website only for lawful, personal purposes.
  • You must not interfere with the website, attempt unauthorised access, introduce malicious code, scrape it at scale, or use its content misleadingly.
  • Website content, branding, photographs and design are owned by or licensed to us. They may not be commercially reproduced without written permission.
  • Links or embedded services supplied by third parties are subject to their own terms and privacy notices.

A booking request is not confirmed until you receive confirmation from us or our booking provider. Please check the date, time, party size and any special requirements. Online group limits and any deposit will be shown during booking; larger groups must contact us directly.

  • Tell us promptly if your party size or requirements change. We cannot guarantee that increased numbers can be accommodated.
  • Please arrive on time. We may release a table if the party is more than 15 minutes late and has not contacted us.
  • Where a deposit is required, the booking page or confirmation will state the amount, cancellation deadline and whether it will be deducted from the final bill.
  • Unless a different rule is clearly stated for an event or group booking, deposits will be refunded where cancellation is received at least 48 hours before the booking. Late cancellation or non-attendance may result in the deposit being retained to the extent permitted by law and reflecting our reasonable loss.
  • Specific-date events, packages, private hire, festive bookings and large groups may have separate terms supplied before payment. Those terms take priority for that booking.
  • We may need to change or cancel a booking for safety, licensing, staffing, supply or circumstances outside our reasonable control. If we cancel, we will offer a reasonable alternative or refund money paid to us for the affected booking.

Menus and prices may change because of seasonality, availability and supplier changes. We may substitute or withdraw dishes and ingredients. Prices shown include VAT where applicable. Please confirm current menus and service times before travelling.

Allergy information: If you or anyone in your party has a food allergy, intolerance or coeliac disease, tell a member of staff before ordering – even if you have visited before. Written allergen information is available and should be supported by a conversation with our team. Recipes, garnishes and suppliers can change.

We follow food-safety and allergen-management procedures and will explain any known cross-contact risk. However, our kitchen handles multiple allergens and, where a risk cannot be removed, we will tell you and may be unable to provide a suitable dish. “Vegan” and “vegetarian” describe ingredients and preparation choices; they do not automatically mean allergen-free. We will not use these terms to exclude our legal duties or liability for negligence.

For any takeaway or delivery service, allergen information will be made available before purchase and again when the food is provided. Customers must identify the person and item to which an allergy instruction applies.

Alcohol is sold and supplied only in accordance with our premises licence and the law. We operate Challenge 25. If you appear under 25, you may be asked for acceptable photographic identification. We may refuse alcohol service where identification is not produced, a person is underage, intoxicated, attempting a proxy purchase, or service would breach licensing obligations. Any online alcohol sale, if introduced, will require age verification at order and/or collection or delivery.

Published opening, kitchen and last-order times are guides and may change for holidays, private events, maintenance, licensing requirements, severe weather, staff shortages or other operational reasons. Opening hours do not guarantee that every menu item, table or service will be available. Please check current details before making a special journey.

We want the pub to be welcoming and safe. We may refuse entry or service, stop alcohol service, cancel a booking, or ask a person to leave where reasonably necessary for safety, licensing, the comfort of others or protection of property. This includes threatening, abusive, discriminatory, harassing, disorderly or seriously disruptive behaviour; illegal drug use; smoking or vaping in prohibited areas; deliberate damage; underage drinking; or failure to follow a reasonable instruction from staff.

Children must be supervised by a responsible adult. Guests are responsible for damage they deliberately or negligently cause, subject to applicable law. Any refund will depend on the goods or services already supplied, the reason service ended and the customer’s statutory rights.

We welcome well-behaved, legally owned dogs in the customer areas designated by management. Suitability is assessed by behaviour, control, space, welfare and safety rather than size or breed alone, although any dog prohibited or restricted by law cannot be admitted except in full compliance with that law.

  • Dogs must be accompanied by a responsible adult, kept under close control on a short lead, and not left unattended.
  • Unless agreed in advance, a maximum of two dogs is allowed per table. Please mention dogs when booking so we can offer a suitable table where possible.
  • Dogs must not sit on furniture, tables or laps at the table; block aisles or exits; approach other guests or dogs without permission; or use the pub’s plates, glasses or cutlery.
  • Dogs must not enter kitchens, food-preparation or food-storage areas, behind the bar, or any other staff-only or restricted area.
  • Owners must prevent persistent barking, jumping, begging, threatening or aggressive behaviour. Dogs that are unwell, visibly distressed, not house-trained, or causing a nuisance may be refused entry or asked to leave.
  • Owners must clean up immediately after their dog, tell staff if further cleaning is needed, and take reasonable steps to prevent damage or injury.
  • Children should not approach or touch a dog without the owner’s permission and must remain supervised by their adult.
  • Management may limit dog numbers, allocate dog-friendly areas, or temporarily restrict pet dogs because of crowding, an event, hygiene, safety or welfare concerns.

Assistance dogs are welcome in public customer areas. We will make reasonable adjustments for disabled guests and will apply the policy flexibly where necessary. Please contact us if an adjustment would help your visit.

9.1 Vouchers issued by the new operator

This section applies to vouchers issued by us on or after the effective date in section 1. The voucher or order confirmation will identify the issuer, value, issue date and expiry date.

  • Vouchers are valid for 6 months from purchase unless a different period is clearly stated before purchase. The expiry date will be shown on the voucher or confirmation. Unused value expires after that date unless the law requires otherwise or we agree an extension.
  • Vouchers may be redeemed at The Black Lake Inn for eligible food and drink during normal service, subject to availability, booking requirements and any clearly stated exclusions. They cannot be used to buy another voucher or exchanged for cash.
  • Where our system permits, part-redemption is allowed and the remaining balance stays available until expiry. No cash change is given.
  • The customer must present the original voucher, code or other proof requested. Treat codes like cash and do not publish or share them. We may suspend a voucher while investigating suspected fraud, duplication or unauthorised use.
  • We are not responsible for a lost, stolen, deleted or misdirected voucher, but may replace it where the purchaser supplies satisfactory proof and the original can be cancelled.
  • Promotional or complimentary vouchers may have separate restrictions and may not be refundable or transferable, provided those restrictions were made clear when issued.

9.2 Online voucher orders and cancellation

The purchaser is responsible for entering the recipient and delivery details correctly. A contract is formed when we send an order confirmation. We may reject and refund an order affected by an obvious pricing error, suspected fraud, payment failure or technical duplication.

A consumer who buys an unused voucher online may cancel within 14 days beginning the day after the order, by contacting the venue with the order details. Refunds are made to the original payment method. If the voucher has been redeemed in whole or in part, cancellation is no longer available for the value already used; any statutory rights remain unaffected.

9.3 Vouchers issued before the October 2026 operator change

A voucher issued before 26 October 2026 by The Black Lake Inn (“legacy voucher”) was not issued by Black Lake Leisure Limited. Black Lake Leisure Limited is the incoming legal operator under a new lease. Subject to the business-transfer documents, liability for a legacy voucher remains with its original issuer unless Black Lake Leisure Limited has expressly assumed that liability.

Legacy vouchers were issued with an original validity period of six months from their date of issue. An expired legacy voucher will not be accepted by Black Lake Leisure Limited. A legacy voucher that is genuine and still within that original six-month period is not valid for redemption against Black Lake Leisure Limited as of right, but management may choose to accept it as a goodwill gesture. Any acceptance is at management’s discretion, may be subject to proof of purchase, the original terms and available records, and does not create a general obligation to accept other legacy vouchers. A holder’s rights against the original issuer are not affected by this goodwill policy. Please contact management before visiting and provide a copy of the voucher and proof of purchase.

Payments are processed through Monkey Pay. We do not receive full card details. Refunds are returned to the original payment method unless the law permits otherwise. Offers and promotions are subject to their stated dates, availability and exclusions and cannot be combined unless expressly stated. We may withdraw a promotion prospectively, but will honour rights already acquired under a completed contract.

We do not exclude or limit liability where it would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or breach of rights that cannot be excluded under consumer law. If you are a consumer, we are responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by our breach or failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, was caused by information or action outside our reasonable control, or is a business loss arising from consumer use of the website or services.

We may update these terms for future use. The version applying to an order or booking is normally the version supplied or available when that transaction was made, unless a change is required by law. For complaints, write to the address in section 1. We will try to resolve the matter promptly.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Consumers may bring proceedings in the courts that have jurisdiction under applicable consumer law, including the courts of the part of the UK where they live where relevant.
